I heard on a radio show the other day that one of the reasons Bruce Forsyth can still pull off his dance moves is that he stretches every morning for half an hour. I’ve also been reading for my PT course about the elements of total fitness: motor skills, muscular strength, muscular endurance, aerobic capacity and flexibility.
The latter – achieved by stretching like Bruce – is one I seem to pay least attention to. It’s not that I don’t value stretching, it’s just that when I normally finish a run, I’m then thinking about work and am keen to get on with the rest of the day and so I rush through it.
This morning, I was totally lacking in energy … a host of little niggles in my legs, tight butt cheeks and a tightness in my chest from Monday’s gym session all conspired to not only slow me down but also to swap from the hilly route I’d chosen to one of my flat ones within about 100 yards of setting off.
Of course, most of the niggles come from not stretching enough, so I’m really doing it to myself. I really need to step up the stretching.

James I am repeatedly waking up stiff (you know where I’m coming from) and although I know I should be stretching I just don’t do it
Let know if you get inspiration
See you on 26th if not before
