Day 355 – Found a window

No, I wasn’t breaking into a house!
When doing this challenge there have been numerous occasions when the logistics of getting a 3 mile run in has been tricky. Today I slept for the usual 4ish hours then got up and walked around in a daze for a bit. Sarah had to go up town for a few bits but kids playing up so she left the eldest 2 with me! By the time she got back and I’d sorted dinner etc. I had a small window to get my run done. It was a slow one though as my energy levels were not good!
I got out and ran though so another one ticked off on the home straight!

Day 354 – Happy Birthday Millie!!!

Doing a year long challenge means you go through everyone’s birthdays. Today it was my amazing daughter’s birthday so Happy Birthday Millie!!
Millie has been through so much recently so it was nice to have a day to make a fuss of her. We decided to have a family day trip to London zoo and as a surprise we invited Millie’s best friend Eliza along too (which Millie didn’t know about until we picked her up!!)
We had a great day out with a cheeky McD’s dinner on the way home..standard!
I had a few hours holiday spare that I had reserved for today but by the time we got home I didn’t have much time to squeeze my run in before work so it was a quick 3 miles!!
I just made it on time and somehow managed to get through a night shift! Worth it though for a great day out!!

Day 353 – Planning a route

With the end nearly upon us, Northy decided to invite everyone to join us for our last ‘local’ run around Grove then obviously a few jars afterwards by way of recovery!
The response has been great! We’ve had fantastic support and interest on our mental challenge and also a lot of support and stick for our blogging! So I think people are coming out to help us over the line but also celebrate the fact we are finishing and we may talk about something else other than running for a couple of weeks and also stop boring everyone with our blogs (well Jon anyway, mine have been interesting!!)
I literally had half an hour in between Sarah getting in from work and her going back out again so myself and Jon did our 3 miles together for the first time in ages. We wanted to plan a decent 3 miles for everyone that was joining us a week Friday and it looks like we have come up with a half decent plan!
Obviously we nattered all the way around so the pace was average for a pair of athletes like ourselves! Another one out of the way though and only a dozen left!

Day 352 – Less than 2 weeks now!

Last blog tonight and up to date again!
Late run after long day at work so short blog. Decent run and after a steady start I was feeling good so gradually upped the pace and banged out the last mile in just over 7mins/mile, still got it in there and hopefully I can build on it when I train for half marathon!
So another one done on the final countdown, passed through the 1200 mile mark and now under two weeks to go!!!! One last push and another plug for my charity page if you can spare and odd pound or two please??!!

Day 351 – New season ticket

Last season I had a season ticket for the footy at Oxford.
This season I am going to get one for the JR Hospital in Oxford!!
Yet again another trip up to A&E, this time with Charlie. We’re getting a bit sick off going up there but at least the doctors are getting to know us and our kids pretty well!
Without going into too much detail and to cut a long story short, Charlie has had a nasty rash the last week or two which looked like it was sun related but today it got really bad and looked very nasty so our GP wanted it checked out by the real experts at the best kids hospital in the country (we are lucky our local hospital is regarded as one of, if not the best kids hospitals in England). After blood tests and several Dr’s visits, they thankfully ruled out meningitis and leukaemia but weren’t 100% sure of the diagnosis – putting it down as viral but keeping an eye on it with follow up tests and appointments. Main thing though is Charlie is fine himself and they were happy to send him home so relief!!
My run tonight was round a different route for a change and I felt pretty decent with a respectable pace!

Day 350 – Decent lie in for a change

After our relaxing day yesterday, it was lovely to wake up when we wanted and not be disturbed by one of the kids wanting something!!
When we finally awoke and got round to getting up, time was kicking on. Whilst Sarah had a bath and got up, I went on my run before we ventured out to pick the kids up.
Not a bad run at a reasonable pace. Also smashed through another milestone, 350 days!!!!
Picked kids up and enjoyed a nice fish pie followed by a movie…everything is awesome!

Day 349 – Totally chilled

It’s not often myself and Sarah get any time to ourselves and after the start to the year we’ve had, I decided it was time we had a bit of ‘us’ time!
So I booked us into a health spa in Northamptonshire called Whittlebury Hall and dispersed the kids to Mums and my sister.
We had a fantastic day dipping in and out of the Jacuzzi, in and out of the various heat and ice rooms/showers and chilling by the pool. We had a lovely lunch and stuffed our faces then had a back, neck and shoulder massage which was amazing!
As it was a health spa, there was also a gym so whilst Sarah read her book by the pool, I took the opportunity to get my run done. It was a first and last for the challenge as I ran on a treadmill. I’m not a big fan of treadmill running as it really is boring so after setting the distance at 10k I decided to reduce this to 8k as I was losing interest! Unfortunately I had left my Garmin watch at home but luckily still had my Nike+ app on my phone so I could record my run. I’ve struggled to upload it via the website so I’ve attached a couple of screen grabs from my phone to prove my 5 mile run!!
We finished the day in the Jacuzzi before heading home after a thoroughly relaxing and much needed day together!
Now obviously I have taken a lot of stick (and will do after this blog!) for going to a health spa and in particular having a massage and facial, so to restore the balance and my manliness I finished the night by ordering a hot curry takeaway for our dinner and washed it down with some strong lager!! Happy days!!!

Day 348 – Beano!!!!

Mine and Joe’s favourite footy team is Liverpool but we both also support our local team Oxford. Joe’s favourite player for the Yellows was Beano so he was a bit gutted when he left for pastures new.
However, luckily his new team is Eastleigh which is the club that Sarah’s company own! They also have Yemi Odubade playing for them who was also one of Joe’s Oxford favourites and another former favourite Jack Midson followed ‘Beano’ to the Silverlake Stadium too!
Tonight, Sarah was asked to go down to the club to help out as they had their final pre season game against Northampton. So myself and Joe decided to go down too and see how they are progressing and support Sarah and her work mates.
Not the greatest of games and an unfortunate 1-0 defeat but Joe got a Beano shirt and all the players autographs after the match in the clubhouse!
I managed to get my run in before Sarah left to work at the club and it was a pretty decent time for a change!

Day 347 – Fashion fail!

I’ve generally really enjoyed the challenge but there have been some things that I haven’t liked!
Early morning runs
Running when ill
Trying to keep up with blogs
Running the same 3 mile route too much
Having to drag myself out when I really CBA
Hangovers
However, today I encountered another one of my 1095mile dislikes….the constant search for clean kit!! We have 3 kids so our washing machine takes a battering but as there are quite a few other jobs to be attended to with 5 in the household, the washing generally tends to build up. I have quite a lot of running gear but running every day means that there is often a search for some clean running gear, today being one of those days.
This led to a particularly awful running combo today of red shorts and a luminous yellow shirt! Needless to say I ran a bit quicker today as although I know running is more about comfort than fashion, I did feel particularly conscious of my dreadful fashion fail!!
Anyway, 3 miles done and another one on the final countdown!!

Day 346 – More lunatics have joined!!!

When myself, Northy and Ste started the challenge on the same day, there had only been 6 finishers to date. We were the only ones currently on the challenge but soon we were joined by Ger, then Kate. Another friend of Jon’s, Dave, joined soon after. In the last 6 weeks that number has been increasing rapidly so welcome to Nathan, Chad, Bong, Amanda and Andrew!!
So after only 6 finishers so far, currently we have 10 on the challenge! That means that hopefully we’ll have lots more finishers steadily completing the challenge over the next year and hopefully we’ll all be motivating and inspiring each other to the end!
We’re nearly there now and Ger won’t be far behind (congratulations on completing the mileage by the way!)
I had an unexpected earlier finish tonight so it was good to get back at a normal hour and get my run done before dinner and had a chance to mess around in the paddling pool with the kids too!
Finally sat down to catch up on blogs and actually take some time to read everyone else’s blogs too!
